Old Pinson Cemetery at Blackwell Clean-Up

November 25, 2007. The family of Dorsey and Norma Pinson gathered at the old Pinson Cemetery near Blackwell to start the task of cleaning the cemetery.

This cemetery is an old place dating back as far as the Civil War. It has not had a caretaker for many years, a few families that have loved ones there clean and cut the grass on their own plots, but the whole cemetery had not been cleaned for six or seven years. It had a lot of underbrush, large trees and was in bad condition. The
family worked all day cutting down trees, bush and burning some. Randy Pinson of Pinson's Excavating cleared trees and brush with his equipment. He hauled gravel and worked on the road up to the cemetery.

There will be many more days work as dirt will have to be hauled in to fill some of the graves, tombstones are lying on the ground and some are broken.

If anyone would like to volunteer some time helping of if they want to donate money to set up a fund to maintain the cemetery in the future, they can call 636-586-5874 for further information.

The cemetery is located in Blackwell on the Whaley property. Cemetery on hill behind the Masonic Hall.
